Ingredients :
The active ingredient is gabapentin.

Indications :
-Each capsule contains either 100, 300 or 400 mg of gabapentin, Gabapentin belongs to a group of drugs called anticonvulsants.
-Gabapentin is used to treat various forms of epilepsy. You should take Gabapentin in addition to your current treatment unless told otherwise. Gabapentin is also used to treat post-herpetic neuralgia (long-term pain caused by damage to the nerves as a result of shingles).
Your doctor may also prescribe you Gabapentin for neuropathic pain.

Dosages :
Epilepsy
Adults and adolescents : The usual dose is between 900 mg and 2400 mg a day taken in 3 divided doses i.e. in the morning, at midday and in the evening. At the start of treatment your doctor will prescribe a low dose which will be gradually increased over several days.

Post-herpetic pain
Adults : The usual dose is between 1800 mg and 2400 mg a day taken in 3 divided doses i.e. in the morning, at midday and in the evening. The maximum daily dose is 3600 mg a day. At the start of treatment your doctor will prescribe a low dose which will gradually be increased over several days.

Neuropathic Pain
Adults age 18 and above : Titration to an effective dose with 300mg as a single dose on day 1, 300mg twice a day on day 2 and 300mg three times a day on day 3. If required, the dose may be increased by 300mg per day in three equally divided doses; to a daily dose of 1800mg within one week. Thereafter daily dose can be increased up to a maximum of 3600mg. Alternatively, if pain intensity requires, 300mg three times a day on day 1, and increase the dose to 3600mg a day if necessary. Totaly daily dose should be administered in three divided doses. Once you are taking Gabapentin 3 times a day the time between doses must not be more than 12 hours.

Children under 12 years of age : Gabapentin is not recommended.

Elderly patients (over 65 years of age) : Unless you have a kidney problem, you should take the normal daily dose.

Patients with kidney problems : Your doctor may reduce the usual dose to suit your needs

Patients undergoing dialysis : The usual starting dose is between 300 mg and  400 mg, followed by 200 mg to 300 mg after every 4 hours of dialysis.
